GLSCL Welcomes the Flag City Sluggers for 2025 season

TROY, Ohio - The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League is proud to officially welcome membership into the league to the Flag City Sluggers. The Sluggers will be based in Findlay, Ohio and begin play on the field in the 2025 season.

The Sluggers are spending the current time building its franchise from the ground up in preparation for its 2025 on field debut. The organization spent nearly one year preparing its presentation of acceptance. The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League officials approved the team in a recent meeting over the course of the recent all-star break.

The team will play its games just north of downtown Findlay at Marathon Diamonds. Marathon Diamonds, located behind The Cube in Findlay, is also the home of the University of Findlay baseball and softball teams. The city owned property is called the Flag City Sports Complex with the baseball facility referred to as Fifth Third Field.

The Sluggers organizational model will be much like that of another current GLSCL franchise. The Sluggers will be operated by a group of college interns and recent graduates much like that of the Southern Ohio Copperheads based out of Ohio University’s sports management program.

At this point, the franchise has a staff in place led by a pair of key members.

The franchise is founded by Joe Fenimore who is a local businessman. Fenimore owns a company called FPC of Flag City which has a national footprint as an executive recruiting firm.

Eric Stoller is an Assistant Professor of Teaching in Sports Management and Coordinator of the Business Solution Center. Stoller will be a board member and give guidance to the front office and game day operations staff that will consist of local college students.

The franchise is starting to gain legs by receiving the unwavering support of Findlay mayor Christina Muryn. Mayor Muryn was the first public figure to announce and endorse the team to the Findlay area community back in January 2024.

Due to geographic proximity, the Sluggers will have natural rivalries with both the Lima Locos and the Grand Lake Mariners.

Simmons Field, the home of the Locos, is just 40 minutes south of Marathon Diamonds while Grand Lake’s Montgomery Field is just over one hour to the southwest of Findlay.

More information on the Flag City Sluggers can be found on its website www.flagcitysluggers.com. The sluggers can also be found on social media as well on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and Instagram.

The inclusion of Flag City will bring the GLSCL back to eight teams for the 2025 season. The Sluggers will be joining the Locos, Mariners, Copperheads, Hamilton Joes, Michigan Monarchs, Muskegon Clippers and Xenia Scouts.
