Host Families

The Flag City Sluggers are looking for families willing to host one or two players for the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball season.

Summer collegiate baseball leagues provide unique opportunities for local families to play host to these rising student-athletes. Host families make a significant difference in helping these aspiring professionals achieve their goals, while the players learn to adapt to a new environment, abide by a new set of rules, blend in with their new family, and conduct themselves in a manner that will ennoble not only the athlete but the college or university that he attends.

Host families take a player(s) into their home over the course of the eight-week season. Players arrive during the first week of June and the season concludes the at the end of July. As a host family, we request that you provide a stable, clean, and healthy environment for the player(s). Specifically, the host families …

  • Provide free room and board which includes an extra room and a bed

  • Access to a washer, dryer and refrigerator

  • Host families are not required to feed players however, those families with the ability, means, and thoughtfulness to provide a few meals each week to their players would be particularly desirable.

  • Host families are not asked to provide transportation. Players arrange their own transportation to and from the ballpark

Each player in the Great Lakes League is pursuing his dream of playing Major League Baseball. Players are recruited through their college baseball coaches and all of them have agreed to maintain impeccable moral standards, abide by NCAA guidelines, and be a role model to our fans. If any player’s actions, on or off the field, are not congruent with these standards, we will ask them to return home. We believe that living in a family’s home is a privilege the players should respect and appreciate.

Let us know your interest in hosting a player this summer.  We will contact you as soon as possible!
